Whether you were able to attend our meeting about Current Predicted Water Supplies on Thursday, May 5th or can tell just by the lack of precipitation we’ve received, the Klamath Basin has a drought on its hands.
It looks like it’s going to be tough growing season, however, there are resources available. We recently received some useful documents from our area FSA office that are available for download below.
FSA Disaster Assistance Programs at a Glance
This document has a list of the various programs available through the USDA/FSA and the type of disasters each program covers.
Livestock Forage Disaster Program
This handy document provides a comprehensive overview of the LFP, including eligibility requirements and payment information.
Drought Monitor Reporting Cheat Sheet
As we mentioned in our meeting last Friday, we’ll irrigators’ help reporting drought conditions to the USDA. This PDF gives a simplified, step-by-step look at how to file a drought report.
We hope these are useful, and as we receive more information we’ll share it. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. Also, we would like to thank Laura Hall, Klamath County Executive Director of USDA – Farm Service Agency, for providing this useful information.
